AND NOW SOME IBERIA INFORMATIONS:
Iberia, is the Spanish
national airline serving 68 destinations in 53 countries, with a fleet of Boeing,
Airbus and Douglas aircraft.Formed in 1940 after the merger of several Spanish
airlines, Iberia was one of the first airlines to establish long-haul routes
from Europe to South America, and the airline still has strong links in that area
and a large number of airline alliances in the region. In 1995 the European
Commission granted a $690 million government aid package to the airline, with a
further $330 million arriving in 1997 to allow the airline to modernise it's
fleet-this coming in the face of stiff opposition from Europe's privatly run
airlines like British Airways, who were especially vocal in their protests. The
airline has many subsidairy carriers:
Binter Canarias and Binter Mediterraneo link the Canary and Balearic Islands
with the Spanish mainland, Viva Air provides charter services from Palma, as
well as some scheduled routes from Palma for Iberia. Aviaco operates schedules
for Iberia to 29 Spanish destinations as well as international services to Paris
and London Stansted.
The airline is one of the few left in Western Europe still operating the
venerable Boeing 727. Due to strict noise regulations about to come into force,
it would appear the 727s days with Iberia are numbered as the airline orders
more A320s and A321s, the ideal, quiter replacements.
Some of the Iberias's
numbers:
135 Cities in 44 Countries on 4 Continents
Second Largest European Airline
Fourth Largest European Transatlantic Airline
More Nonstop Flights (14) to Spain from U.S.A. than any other airline
44 Flights Daily from Madrid to Barcelona.
